Qualcomm has announced its mid-range chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 as early as the third week of March, which will bring a revolution to the mid-range with flagship processors. Qualcomm had officially announced 8 Gen 3 last year. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was meant for premium/flagship smartphones. This category includes flagship smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, OnePlus 12, iQOO 12 5G, and Xiaomi 14, which are really expensive.

The New Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Specs

Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is a very powerful and fast processor in which inbuilt AI will be supported. As we all know, there are OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, for which we have to give access to third parties. On the same lines, Qualcomm Snapdragon is now introducing inbuilt AI in its chipset itself, which will come with the phone itself, and every smartphone user will get it inbuilt in the chipset. This is a revolutionary step from Snapdragon’s side, where AI is dominant everywhere, and how can big tech companies like Qualcomm stay behind. This time, Qualcomm has targeted mid-range phones, which are generally smartphones priced between Rs 25000-45000.

The new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is faster and more advanced than last year’s 7 series. Many major changes and improvements have been made in the new chipset. The thing that makes it most special in this range is its on-device AI which sets it apart from the rest. Although Qualcomm’s rival MediaTek has given tough competition to Qualcomm, it has not been able to compete with its more advanced 4nm and AI yet.

What’s Special in Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3

The new processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 will support on-device AI due to the built-in NPU (Neural Processing Unit). The NPU will also help support multiple LLMs (large language models) and LVMs (large vision models). This chipset will have the inbuilt ability to translate many languages, for which no cloud computer will be required. Like translators were being used earlier as they also consumed data and time, which can now be avoided. Along with this, it becomes capable of transcription.

This new chip not only brings AI but also many other features. The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Kryo CPU and Adreno GPU come with 15 percent and 45 percent more powerful and faster processors respectively. The chipset’s main core can go up to 2.8GHz, while the four performance cores can go up to 2.6GHz. Using these cores will help in multi-tasking, running heavy apps or playing high-end games like PUBG, COD, Palworld, Shadowgun etc.

There has been talk of multi-tasking, heavy apps, Gaming and AI, but to maintain so many heavy tasks, attention will also have to be paid to battery consumption. During heavy tasks, it is generally seen that the mobile gets heated and the problem of battery drain is the most faced. For which Qualcomm has also provided three efficiency cores of 1.9 GHz clock speed. It disables large apps from closing during multi-tasking, heavy apps or gaming so that no apps remain running in the background.

This eliminates the problem of heating in the phone, increases performance and maintains speed and most importantly its battery life always remains healthy. Due to which there is no or very little impact on battery drain or battery life.

Compatibility With Hardware

It is considered best for software and heavy processing, but how does it compare with hardware? The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 supports up to a larger 24GB LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage speeds. UFS 4.0 delivers much faster memory reading speeds. This enables faster multitasking and gaming. A new post-processing accelerator for games helps deliver visual effects like bloom, depth and motion blur. Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 helps maintain frame rates and optimize online, onscreen performance.

Compatibility With Camera

This new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 processor will support 36MP triple camera setup. Now, any smartphone manufacturing company can give the setup of 1 camera, 2 cameras or 3 cameras as per their choice. Because it is also capable of supporting dual cameras of 108MP and 64MP + 36MP. In which it will support 1080p + 4K video recording. In which it will help in enhancing the photo video quality with the help of AI.

Its AI will also help a lot in photo-video photography. Edge detection, face detection, blur effect, motion detection, HDR and 4K HDR video recording and Google Ultra will help in HDR photo capture. Process the captured photo and make it clearer and sharper.

Compatibility With Networks

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 brings a huge upgrade in terms of networks. This processor will support Wi-Fi 7, which makes it the first processor in this series. Qualcomm reports that Wi-Fi 7 can reach download speeds up to 5 Gbps. This Snapdragon® Additionally, the Qualcomm® FastConnect™ 6700 Mobile Connectivity System enables Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth® 5.3 wireless technologies.

Display Compatibility

Talking about display compatibility, this device will support the highest WFHD+ @ 168 Hz, WQHD+ @ 120 Hz resolutions. It will support QHD+ displays at 120Hz resolution and 4K resolution displays at up to 60Hz. Along with this, HDR10, HDR10+, Adaptive HDR10, Ultra HDR and Dolby Vision will also come with it. You can watch Ultra HD videos HDR10 and HDR10+ on YouTube or offline, there will be no lag or color related issues.

Qualcomm has created great processors for mid and high-end smartphones. The thing to be seen is which phones will it be available in or which smartphone manufacturing company is the first to provide this processor in its phones. According to reports, it is believed that Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 will be seen first in phones of OnePlus, Motorola, Realme, Vivo, Xiaomi. There is no official confirmation yet since the processor has just been launched. The future of smartphones is going to be great with a great processor, AI and best multitasking.
